Digestion Column

The column stages different relationships between old and new inhabitants of Langa. It is a three-sided structure which allows visitors see some of the subjects mentioned in the book.

One side of the column is designed as a Winogratsky column to be able to showcase the microbial diversity of the soil. It is filled with water and showcases some historical seashells collected from the current site. This container hosts Weissella p., which is mentioned in the book.

Second side is made of top soil from Langa which contains mostly trash and urban waste. This section hosts Ganoderma, which feeds off the trash and proliferates across the different layers of the soil.

The third side includes soil from a rocky mound and features the astragal bone and many insects that are still living at different layers of Langa.
